2020 Mazda CX-30 vs. 2020 Toyota C-HR

If you haven’t heard of the new Mazda CX-30, it’s a great time to learn more about this special vehicle. The CX-30 is a compact crossover that is big on power and performance in its segment. It offers AWD with each trim (standard on the GT), which is a rare find on many of its competitors. To help illustrate these exciting advantages and more, we place the 2020 CX-30 in a head-to-head comparison with an established competitor - the 2020 Toyota C-HR.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 is more powerful and surprisingly efficient

The CX-30 model line includes two engines that make it stand out as one of the most powerful of its segment. The CX-30 2.0L four-cylinder engine produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque on the GX and also pairs with either FWD and AWD systems. The CX-30’s GS and GT trims include a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that piles on 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the Toyota C-HR offers a 2.0L four-cylinder that produces just 144 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque, falling short of what the CX-30 offers.

As a matter of fact, the CX-30’s significantly more powerful engines compete with the C-HR’s fuel efficiency. The CX-30’s FWD 2.0L engine has a highway fuel consumption rating of 7.1 L/100 km, beating the C-HR’s highway rating of 7.5. The CX-30’s FWD 2.5L, 186 hp engine also achieves a 7.1 L/100 km on the highway - but only burns .2 L/100 km more in the city compared to the less powerful C-HR. That is a tiny tradeoff to gain 44 more exhilarating horsepower!

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 puts you in control

If you want more control over your vehicle’s acceleration and performance, the CX-30 includes a six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode, Drive Selection switch and paddle shifters (GT). The C-HR’s continuously variable transmission isn’t equipped for such a driver-centered experience. The CX-30 also offers optional AWD on the GX and GS models, with standard AWD on the GT. AWD does not appear anywhere in the Toyota C-HR lineup. This limits the C-HR’s capabilities on all road surfaces.

The Mazda CX-30 is a much better vehicle and value proposition than the Toyota C-HR. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions about the 2020 Mazda CX-30.
