2021 Mazda CX-30 vs 2020 Honda HR-V

Few other automobile segments in Canada are busier than small SUVs. As such, all are fighting for attention, including the Honda HR-V. Design is an important factor for the majority of buyers and when it comes to standing out, the Mazda CX-30 truly has no equal. Its blend of form and function is unlike any other SUV in the segment.


In the last decade, Mazda has redefined its image with its very own and truly distinctive design language. Furthermore, the Mazda CX-30 is loaded with the latest infotainment features and technologies. The standard touchscreen display measures 8.8 inches across while the HR-V offers either a 5- or 7-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included with the base model, and are available only in higher trims for the Honda.


The Honda HR-V is powered by a 141-horsepower 1.8-litre 4-cylinder mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard while AWD is optional. Mazda takes driving pleasure to the next level with its standard 155-horsepower 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Optionally, the CX-30 can be powered by 186-horsepower 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that can also feature AWD. Should you be interested in more power, the CX-30 can be fitted with the ultimate turbocharged 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that delivers up to 250 horsepower.


Mazda’s intention is to deliver affordable premium products and the all-new CX-30 is an impressive small SUV. The Honda HR-V is a fine SUV however for the best in styling, craftsmanship and driving pleasure, it does not come close the Mazda CX-30.
