2021 Mazda CX-30: compact utility in a fun format

The Mazda CX-30 was unveiled last year and quickly attracted a lot of attention from both media and consumers. The Mazda CX-30 offers something no other compact SUV offers: a perfect combination of interior space and car-like drivability. The CX-30 is sized perfectly for the city, comfortable on the highway, and great for a young family or an active buyer. For 2021, the CX-30 is back with the same features that have allowed it to shine since its launch.

The CX-30 stands out with its elegant and daring style. Inspired by Mazda’s KODO design and styled with grace, the CX-30 is based off the Mazda3 Sport, but with a higher ground clearance and a more rugged design overall. It is right in the middle between an SUV and hatchback.

Like other Mazda SUVs, the CX-30 can be equipped with the automaker’s advanced all-wheel-drive system dubbed i-ACTIV. This technology uses 27 sensors that monitor road conditions 200 times per second to guarantee optimal traction and impressive performance in any situation. Rain, snow, or ice, your Mazda CX-30 will perform the way you want it to.

Available in three separate versions for 2021, the GX, GS and GT, the CX-30 is offered with three different engines including one that was just unveiled this year. First, in the CX-30 GX, you’ll find a 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder engine and a 6-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic gearbox. This engine develops 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque.

The second powertrain offered is the 2.5-litre SKYACTIV-G engine coupled to a 6-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic gearbox, which is found in all GS and GT models. This engine develops 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

With these two choices, Mazda’s new compact SUV offers fuel economy ratings ranging from 8.9 to 9.9 L/100 km in the city and 7.1 to 7.7 L/100 km on the highway. That puts it among the best in the segment.

But then, you can also opt for an incredibly powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 2.5-litres and an incredible 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Think about it, 227 horsepower in an all-wheel drive hatchback with high ground clearance. What could be better?

The Mazda SUV also has 572 litres behind the second row of seats which means you will never run out of space. With the second row of seats folded down, the volume increases to 1,280 litres. This puts the CX-30 ahead of the likes of the Subaru Crosstrek and Hyundai Kona in terms of cargo space.
