Inline-Six Power, the Way Premium Buyers Like It

A six-cylinder engine has long been a sign of a premium crossover. The CX-70 MHEV uses a 3.3 L inline 6-cylinder turbo engine paired with Mazda's 48-volt M Hybrid Boost system. On the GS-L and GT, it makes 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel.

The GT-P and Signature step up to the high-output version of the same engine. With the recommended premium fuel, it makes 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Power flows through an 8-speed automatic to standard i-Activ all-wheel drive, so there is no front-drive base model to settle for. Mi-Drive modes, including Sport and Off-Road, come on every CX-70.

The fuel numbers stay sensible for an SUV with this much power:

  • 3.3 L standard output: 9.9 L/100 km city, 8.4 L/100 km highway, 9.3 L/100 km combined
  • 3.3 L high output: 10.3 L/100 km city, 8.5 L/100 km highway, 9.5 L/100 km combined
  • Towing: 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg) on all MHEV trims, with Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories

A Plug-In Hybrid With Up to 51 km of Electric Driving

Plug-in hybrids are a big part of the premium crossover class, and the CX-70 PHEV holds its own. Its 2.5 L 4-cylinder engine works with an electric motor to make 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on recommended premium fuel. That means the PHEV has the same torque figure as the high-output inline-six.

For 2026, Mazda added the new GS-SC and GS-L SC trims, which raise electric range to an estimated 51 km. The GT and the new PHEV Signature offer 43 km of electric range. The GT is rated at 4.2 Le/100 km combined for electricity and gasoline, with an NRCan total range of 758 km. Every PHEV tows up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg).

A Cabin Finished to Premium Standards

The CX-70 cabin is where it pulls even with luxury-brand rivals. Starting at the GT, you get leather seating with ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and an 8-way power passenger seat. A power-sliding panoramic moonroof, a windshield-projected Active Driving Display, a Bose 12-speaker sound system, and Alexa built-in are also part of the package.

The GT-P adds black Nappa leather, a black headliner and pillar trim, and metallic accents. You can also choose an optional Garnet Red Nappa leather interior. The Signature trims go further with Grand Luxe Suede on the dashboard and doors, Dark Arbor trim, and a two-tone steering wheel. The PHEV Signature wraps its seats in Windsor Tan Nappa leather.

Signature-level features worth noting:

  • Driver Personalization System: Uses facial recognition to recall saved seat and steering wheel settings
  • Power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel: Adjusts with the push of a button
  • 150-W AC power outlet: Standard on the PHEV Signature for small devices and gear

Ride and Handling Built for Confidence

Premium crossovers win buyers with how they feel on the road, and the CX-70 is built for that. Every trim rides on an independent double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. Kinematic Posture Control comes standard. It helps keep the body steady through tight corners, so passengers sit in a more natural posture.

Safety Technology at Every Level

Entry trims include Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The GT adds a 360° View Monitor, front parking sensors, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Cross Traffic Alert, and Driver Monitoring. The GT-P brings Emergency Lane Keeping with Blind Spot Assist.

At the top, the Signature adds Smart Brake Support Front Crossing, Turning Across Path, Secondary Collision Reduction, and See-Through View for the 360° camera.

Space for Gear and Weekend Plans

The CX-70 offers up to 1,131 L of cargo space behind the second row. Fold the rear seats down and that grows to as much as 2,147 L. That is room for hockey bags or camping gear.

Which CX-70 Is Right for You?

If you want inline-six smoothness on regular fuel, the GS-L and GT give you 280 hp and premium touches like Bose audio and a panoramic moonroof at the GT level. For buyers who want more power and Nappa leather, the GT-P and Signature deliver 340 hp and 369 lb-ft. If you want to cut fuel use on short trips, the PHEV trims give you up to 51 km of electric driving with the same 369 lb-ft of torque.

No matter which version you pick, you get standard all-wheel drive, a double wishbone front suspension, and a cabin that stands up to luxury-brand crossovers. The CX-70 gives premium buyers the features they want without the luxury badge markup.
