What Differentiates the 2025 Mazda CX-70 and the 2024 CX-90?

As you might have noticed, the new 2025 Mazda CX-70 is very similar to the CX-90, which was added to the Mazda lineup for the 2024 model year. This is because both models share their platform, their powertrains, their technologies, and even the majority of their design work. Despite this, there are a few key differences that make them stand out from each other, which is what we will explore here.

Two rows in the CX-70, three in the CX-90

Of course, the main thing that differentiates the new 2025 Mazda CX-70 from the CX-90 is the presence or the absence of the third row of seats. As standard, the CX-90 comes equipped with two rear bench seats that make it possible to accommodate up to 8 passengers while the CX-70 only has one rear bench, which means it can only transport five passengers. In the interest of greater versatility and comfort, the CX-90 can also be equipped with different seating configurations that bring its passenger capacity down to either 7 or 6. Despite its lower passenger capacity, the CX-70 is still a very practical SUV as its overall length, which is only slightly shorter than the CX-90, means that it benefits from a very generous cargo compartment.

Elegance or sportiness

Another way in which the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and the 2025 CX-70 stand out from the other is in their trim, which is tailored to each model’s unique personality. For example, the CX-90 features multiple bright chrome accents all around the exterior and a generally lighter interior theme with available maple wood accents, making for a refined and elegant appearance. On the other hand, the CX-70 features lots of gloss black accents and available red leather upholstery that cement its more dynamic personality.

Similar pricing, with a twist

Since both the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and the 2025 CX-70 are so similar, it is not surprising to see that they are priced quite closely. Indeed, for most trim levels, the CX-70 costs a few hundred less than the CX-90, which means that buyers can choose the one that best fits their needs and preferences without having to worry about which one costs more. What can be surprising is that the CX-90 is actually more affordable than the CX-70, thanks to the entry-level GS trim level, which is not available on the CX-70.
