Why You Should Choose the 2023 Mazda CX-5 over the 2023 Honda CR-V

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 continues to be a popular option in the compact SUV segment due to its value, its technology, and the enjoyment it provides out on the road. Here is how it compares with the 2023 Honda CR-V.

A better value

While the new 2023 Honda CR-V is a very competitive compact SUV, its price is now way above most of its competitors despite its list of standard equipment being one of the shortest. In the case of the 2023 Mazda CX-5, the opposite is true, which is why it remains one of the best values in the segment. For example, the entry-level CX-5 GS is more than $5,000 less expensive than the entry-level CR-V and it is equipped with features such as all-wheel drive, alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. None of these elements are included in the base CR-V.

A high level of technology

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 offers numerous advanced technologies that improve every aspect of a drive, from entertainment to handling, and safety. While this is also true of the 2023 Honda CR-V, the CX-5 still has an edge. Indeed, when comparing entry-level models, the CX-5 benefits from a number of features and technologies that are not standard on the CR-V, such as a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and Connected Services, in addition to all of the items mentioned in the previous paragraph. When comparing better-equipped versions, it remains apparent that Honda makes you pay more for the same features. For example, the mid-level CX-5 GT comes standard with a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, as well as power driver and passenger seats. In order to benefit from most of these features, you would have to spend over $5,600 more with the CR-V and even then, ventilated front seats are nowhere to be found.

More fun to drive

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 continues to be one of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive in its category due to Mazda’s experience in making vehicles that handle well and provide a high level of driver engagement. In addition, the CX-5 offers more standard torque than the CR-V and the i-Activ all-wheel drive system makes better use of the engine’s resources than the standard front-wheel drive layout in the CR-V. Another point to consider is that the CX-5 offers a very powerful turbocharged engine starting from the Sport Design version, while the Honda is stuck with the same powertrain for the entire lineup except for the most expensive version, which receives a hybrid engine that is still not as powerful as the CX-5 turbo.
